Playoff Update – Final
It was starting to look like the snow might fly before we got the final games in – and it was a close thing, too!
Final Playoff Champs Crowned:
Barzotti Masters wrapped up the Masters 45 Playoff Finals in decisive fashion with an upset 27-11 victory in game 5 over the Divisional Champion Rangers. This was the last game going for the 2009 season, and the only series to go the distance in the Finals. Rangers took an early 2-0 lead in the series, but Barzotti took control in game 3 and never looked back, winning the final 3 games and the series. Congratulations to both teams on your well fought battle and on your success this season.
Masters Finals:
When last we checked in on Masters, Touch of Grey had taken the early lead in the Playoff Finals with an easy victory in game 1. Domino’s Pizza battled back in game 2, showing the form that allowed them to upset Here 2 There Freight in the Semis and make it into the Finals. But when Touch of Grey took over the lead in the top of the 9th, they couldn’t answer back and ended up down 2 games in the series. Touch of Grey went on to complete the sweep with a decisive game 3 victory. Congratulations, and congratulations to all teams in Masters on a very competitive season.
Don’t Forget Division II:
Pour House and Guelph Brewers were tied 1-1 in this series at the last update, but that was as close as Pour House was able to take it. Guelph Brewers came out strong in game 3 to take the lead, and Pour House seemed to lose some momentum at that point. The Brewers capped their Division Championship season with a Playoff Championship when they took game 4 and won the series 3 games to 1. Congratulations on your success this season, and good luck next year as you move on to Division I.
On the Consolation side, Sweaty Mitts proved too powerful for Swamp Donkeys in their matchup, sending the Donkeys out to pasture (I know … kinda weak). This set up a Sweaty Mitts vs. Long Shots match that had Long Shots at a serious disadvantage in that they had to win twice. Long Shots gave it their best shot (get it?), but ended up on the wrong end of an 11-10 battle. Congratulations go out to Sweaty Mitts for battling through.
Last, but not least:
The Division I Finals have long been in the books, but there was still a battle raging for the Consolation round. Havana Blast had their backs to the wall in this series, needing to win twice against an unbeaten Misfits. They were ultimately overmatched by the hungrier Misfits team – Congratulations on a well fought playoffs!
Season Wrap-up:
We’ve played all the games and moved on to our winter sports (or fall, whatever) but we still have some business to attend to. The prizing is (mostly) in and is being embroidered as we speak, but distributing it could now prove to be an issue since we don’t have a year-end banquet to wrap things up.
For this reason, (and because we need to collect light keys, set up our agenda and take nominations for Executive Positions for the AGM in November) we will be calling a meeting some time in the next couple of weeks. This will be a very simple (and Optional) drop-in type meeting with no set agenda, but it is very important that all keys be returned by the time of the meeting. The City is taking strict control of key distribution (much more so than in the past) and in order for us to collect our deposit we need to get them in before November 1st.
I will post on the site and send out an email detailing when we will be having this meeting and where you can drop off your keys should you not be able to attend. The keys are all numbered and we know who you are – please help us get them in as smoothly and as quickly as possible.
Thank you everyone for helping make this another great year of SloPitch!
