City Meeting:

  • Bruce went to the City Meeting and voiced an opinion on behalf of GTCSPL regarding getting the following fixed: road graded, a new box at GG#4, lights fixed, straighten pole on GG#7.
  • There will be a 3% – 5% increase of diamond fees next year.
  • Guelph Girls’ softball association is going to run the concession stand at our opening and closing tournaments.

Season Review / Alignment:

  • Hartec will go down to B.
  • Balls & Dolls will go up to A.
  • BDO Blues will go down to C.
  • Bases Loaded will go up to B.
  • Our league is at our maximum number of teams because of the diamond availability (may go to 32 but that would be it).

Diamonds:

  • We are going to look at getting a box for GG#4 and either a new box or a cart for GG#7
  • The city is coming up with a solution for the plugs that are being ruined or lost when they drag the diamonds.
  • Outside diamonds may need new bases.
  • We need to take care of all bases … please use the hammer to pull out the spikes – not the straps.

Umpires:

  • There were 4 games that were missing umps (much better than the previous year). Credits have gone to teams that did not have an ump ($15.00).
  • Dwayne is looking at adding more umpires for next year.
  • Overall, we were very happy with Dwayne and will be staying with him again next year.

Statistician:

  • No issues at all with the website. Bob does a great job and we will be sticking with him as long as he is willing to do it or until someone else comes forward to do it.
  • It is a contract position.

Affiliation:

  • We may be changing our Affiliation next year:
    • NSA is changing the amount of cash we get back in prizes.
    • SPN is sending information.
    • SPO sent information.
  • All will be presented at the opening meeting to be voted on.
  • We also need to figure out how many teams play in SPN tournaments vs. NSA tournaments.
  • The umpires have no preference.

Banquet Review:

  • The banquet was good this year. It appeared to be worth continuing but there will be a vote at the opening meeting.
  • 228 people attended this year vs. 92 the year prior.
  • Do we continue with the 6 complimentary tickets?

Budget:

  • The budget is attached – it is all pretty self-explanatory.
  • No questions or concerns were raised.
  • A pass on the budget was motioned by Steve Cole and seconded by Shoeless Joe’s – 24 in favour, 0 not in favour.

Constitution Changes / Rule Changes:

  • A change of the following rule was brought forward: Elimination of the mandatory one-third game requirement.
    • 7 teams wanted it changed, 17 did not.
    • The change was not accepted.
  • A change to make the unwritten rule of throwing a lady out at first base was brought forward to make it an actual rule.
    • 1 team was for the change, 23 were against.
    • Throwing a lady out a first base is still an “unwritten” rule if your teams want to follow it.
  • An addition to the rules was proposed: If a player on your roster becomes injured during the season, they should be allowed to come back and play in the closing tournament regardless of how many games they have in.
    • 22 teams for the change, 2 teams against the change.
    • Motion carried … If a player becomes injured during the season but is better at the end they can play in the closing tournament no matter how many games they have in.

Tournaments:

  • We want the team captains to talk to their teams to see if moving the tournament to Saturday & Sunday would be a problem. It would give more time to fit all of the games in and allow for any rain delays.
  • It was suggested to have some games the Tuesday and Thursday before which we can look at but not until the end of the season as they are our rainout dates. Having it that way also takes away from beer sales.
  • When you receive your hand books in April, the Opening and Closing Tournament schedules will be in there so there will be no room for changes.
  • We can also look at doing a double knock out format or a double knock out modified tournament.

Other Business:

  • Please DO NOT bring illegal bats to the diamonds: rolled, shaved, altered at all.
  • A team has the right to protest a bat – however, if that team is wrong they will have to replace the bat.
  • We would like to try and have all of the games out at Guelph Lake but unfortunately there are not enough diamonds.
  • We need the teams to think about the following options:
    • Go to triple headers (still not enough diamonds but close).
    • Add an additional night at Guelph Lake (Fridays or Sundays).
    • Keep with the diamonds we have (U of G is going to put a fence around the diamond).
  • Think about it for next meeting.
