New Team: Friar Tuck’s.

League Affiliation:

Our affiliation with NSA over the last 4 years has been very good and there is no reason to change. The financial benefit of their “Team Prizing” has helped us control our prizing costs while helping us improve our overall prize package for the winners.

During our discussion, a question concerning our Bat Policy was raised. Though we are affiliated with NSA, our bat policy is more closely aligned with the ASA Bat Testing & Certification Program than it is with the NSA Canada Bat Policy. Team reps are encouraged to follow the links and understand the policies – we’ll discuss our policy and any changes we wish to make at a future meeting.

Financial Report:

League treasurer Brad Mitchell updated us on our current financial picture (healthy) and outlined the proposed budget for the coming season. League Fees will remain unchanged for 2009, though existing teams from 2008 will benefit from a $100.00 league credit applied to their league fees.

Balls:

We have experimented with a few different balls in the last couple of years in our (futile) attempt to honor the request of council to provide a .44 COR / 400 Compression ball with a white cover. Due to the difficulty in obtaining said white balls and the poor performance of some of the balls we experimented with over the past couple of seasons we have decided to use a proven ball for 2009. The ball for 2009 is the Optic Yellow Worth Gold Dot.

Umpires:

Dwayne Scott has been working through the winter to get the umpires set to go for the coming season, and he will be the new Umpire In Chief for the RCMSPL in 2009. While this represents a new direction for umpiring in the Guelph area, the umpires we know and love will still be on the job for the coming season. All umpires will now be carded through NSA Canada.

Website:

As you can plainly see, this is a work in progress. All the content you’ve come to expect over recent years will be up and available shortly (schedules are still a ways away as we haven’t finalized divisions yet!). Please be patient and check back for updates. Team reps are encouraged to register on the website as there will be a need later when the time comes to report scores.

Divisional Alignment:

We created a policy last season addressing the issue of divisional alignment, and this policy has been (will be) implemented for the coming season. Teams will be placed in divisions based on their performance last season, and new teams are placed in Division II except where it is in the best interests of the league to place them otherwise. Friar Tuck’s (a new team for 2009) will be placed in Division I as they are comprised of existing players who all come from that division.

Opening Tournament:

The 2nd Annual Opening Tournament will be held May 2nd and 3rd 2009 at Guelph Lake. This is a fun warm up tournament designed to set the stage for the new season. Headquarters will again be set up at GG8 (the pavilion) and we will have food and beer onsite. Please come out and support the league as your support will ensure we can run this tournament for years to come.

Future Dates:

March 26, 2009 – 2nd meeting – 50% league fees due.
April 23, 2009 – final meeting – all remaining fees due.
May 5, 2009 – Projected Opening Day
