If you’re at the diamonds tonight, you will notice that we will have one new base on GG5 or GG6. This is because, when we went down to the diamonds on Thursday, the cement box was open and all of our bases had been removed and strewn all over the place. After an exhaustive search, one of our bases was determined to be missing.

This is a reminder to all teams: ENSURE THAT THE HOME TEAM OF THE LATE GAME LOCKS THE BASES AWAY.

GG4 – Orange Box
GG5 – Cement Bunker
GG6 – Cement Bunker
GG7 – in the green box where you turn the lights on/off

We have had to replace one base at a cost of $90 to the league. I have spoken with all of the potential offending teams and they all assure me that they locked the bases away – and I believe them. It may have been that the City crew left it open when they gilled the diamonds, but it is not something that we can determine at this time.

Also note – we have purchased new base plugs for all of the diamonds.

PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU REPLACE THE BASES WITH THE PLUGS.

This helps the next teams coming in to:
a) find the base hole locations, and
b) not have to spend so much time digging out the base holes once they are located.

There are more then enough base plugs at the diamonds. If you cannot find them, please ask someone. If you notice that they have gone missing, let me know ASAP.

I realize that the 3rd base hole on GG7 is still the old one, and this will be replaced shortly. If anyone wants to volunteer their time to assist the executive with this, please let me know and we can make the appropriate arrangements.

If you have any questions or comments, please contact me at hebz@rogers.com and we can discuss your concerns.

Thanks,

RCMSPL – President

Editor’s note: the Magnetic Release Bases at the Guelph Lake diamonds are a joint project of GTCSPL and RCMSPL. As such, they are the responsibility of the leagues – NOT the City.

It’s up to US to take care of and maintain these bases, and we ALL have to work together to make them work for us!

Good afternoon folks. I hope you are enjoying the rest and looking forward to the new season! The Executive is diligently working on the upcoming season and we need some info…

I would like to CONFIRM that your team is returning for this coming year. I need an email from each team to express their interest. We are looking at possible expansion but want to know what we are working with first.

Please send this to me by Sunday February 7th!

If I have not heard from you by then, I will assume that you are no longer interested in putting a team in the league and your spot will be filled.

Thank you,

Security updates aren’t something you put off any longer than necessary, but this particular update didn’t work nearly as well as expected! Changing the core files caused poor interaction with my theme files and I’ve spent most of today just getting things back up so you could see them. I (obviously) still have much work to do just to get back to where we were.

The info is all still here – it’s just a little harder to get at right now. Not to worry … I’ll have it all back in order shortly.

Thanks for your patience.

July 08, 2009
GREG MERCER
GUELPH MERCURY

Right in the middle of Ontario’s corn belt, little Wyoming is so flat it seems you could smack a high fly ball to centre field and watch it soar forever.

It’s here in this tiny farming village, right off Broadway Street, you’ll find an increasingly rare sight: Prime green space in the heart of the town that is reserved for baseball diamonds. The soccer pitches, meanwhile, are tucked out on the edge of town, behind the big metal barns on the agricultural society grounds.

That makes Wyoming charmingly out of step with its neighbours in Ontario.

Most municipalities in the province, and indeed, across the country, are increasingly choosing soccer over baseball when it comes time to build or maintain their sports fields. And no wonder: minor league soccer is a growing sport, and minor league baseball simply, and sadly, isn’t.

That was spelled out clearly at a city council meeting this week in Cambridge, where councillors approved without debate a sports field master plan that would plow under old baseball diamonds and replace them with new soccer pitches.

Further down in the article …

Guelph is no different from Cambridge, and there are calls for similar decisions here. On many weeknights, our baseball diamonds lie quiet and overgrown with weeds, while our soccer pitches are full of running tykes and proud parents.

It goes on to say more, but I just can’t bring myself to even think about this!!

The article can be read in it’s entirety at the GuelphMercury.com website.

If you happened to drop in on the site this evening, you may have been confused by all the appearing and disappearing links and pages (as I was!).

Not to worry!

While I’m walking away for now (with the site still in disarray), I will return in the morning to complete my mission. Team pages have now been posted for the RCMSPL – I will get to the GTCSPL pages tomorrow.

Edit: GTCSPL team pages are now up and running.

There are still a few bugs to be worked out and the site navigation is still the biggest current issue, but we are on the right path!

Edit: Sorry … no change to the bug situation!

Your help is needed!

If you are having difficulties viewing the links that have been posted, please help me out by reporting the page you are trying to view and the result you are getting when you try to go there.

Thank you all for your patience.
